UCFB was this week rewarded for its innovation and years of hard work and dedication, winning the Best Club Sponsorship and Engagement Award at the 2015 MBNA Northwest Football Awards. Awarded for UCFB’s achievement of developing highly successful football and sports business graduates just four years since the launch of its campus at the historic Turf Moor stadium, the award recognised UCFB for its already significant impact on the football and higher education industries.
Held at the Emirates Old Trafford stadium, the awards paid tribute to and recognised those who achieve footballing excellence both on and off the field throughout the year.
UCFB staff and students enjoyed a three course meal at the prestigious event before UCFB Chairman and Co-Founder, Brendan Flood, and UCFB Chief Executive, Professor Philip Wilson, presented the Business Services to Football Award to Nigeria’s number one all-sports daily newspaper, Complete Sport. Shortly after presenting the UCFB sponsored award, UCFB were announced as the winner of the coveted Best Club Sponsorship and Engagement Award.
The award is a result of the extensive work that has been put into UCFB over the past five years to ensure that it lives up to its name as a world first in higher education. The accolade recognises the unprecedented idea of delivering undergraduate degree programmes inside a stadium, with the core focus on an unparalleled approach to students learning, living and working within the heart of the football and sport industries. Winning the award is a proud achievement for UCFB and everyone involved since the institution’s inception.
UCFB Chief Executive, Professor Philip Wilson commented on the award:
“The Best Club Sponsorship and Engagement award represents five years of hard work from the initial concept at UCFB Burnley to setting up and delivering world-renowned degrees at three iconic campus locations, including our brand new leading sporting facility at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
“Our unique ethos to student learning and the idea of teaching within a stadium has resulted in our ultimate goal of educating incredibly experienced and well qualified graduates who are enjoying best-in-industry employment rates, particularly in sport. At UCFB we are proud to be creating future leaders in northwest and world football and sport.”
BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student, Amy O’Connor was in attendance at the ceremony and added:
“It was brilliant to be part of an event involving so many clubs, and to be able to hear about the great things that go on in football within the northwest was great. I feel privileged to have been invited, and witnessing UCFB winning an award was fantastic. It’s important to know that we are recognised throughout the sports industry.”
