UCFB Wembley Pitch Day a Resounding Success as Students, Alumni and Staff Took to the Hallowed Turf
Thursday 19th November 2015 is a date that will stick in the heads of UCFB Wembley staff, students and alumni who were granted a once in a lifetime opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Wembley Stadium.
It is the dream of every football fan around the world and it was realised by over 160 players at UCFB Wembley who enjoyed a series of matches at the world famous stadium that has hosted Champions League Finals, FA Cup Finals and England Internationals. The second UCFB Wembley pitch day in as many years ensured that everyone involved was treated to a fully immersive experience of life as a professional footballer.
The event also gave students further insight into the operations, logistics, event management, marketing and media responsibilities surrounding a sporting event. Students on the Sports Business & Sports Broadcasting degree were able to put their match commentary masterclass skills to good use, commentating on the six matches that took place across the morning.
UCFB Chief Executive, Professor Philip Wilson commented on this landmark event:
“Thanks to our ongoing relationship with our colleagues at Wembley Stadium and The FA, the staff, students and alumni were all able to achieve a lifelong dream playing on the hallowed turf at Wembley; an opportunity that very few professional footballers, let alone sports fans, will enjoy in their lifetimes.”
Sport Coordinator at UCFB Wembley, Lewis Timms organised the day’s matches and was delighted at how the event went:
“I hope everyone involved enjoyed the Pitch Day event at Wembley Stadium. It was great to see so many of our students getting to fulfil a childhood dream by playing on the Wembley turf. In total, over 160 students, alumni and staff got to play which I think may be a record for unique players playing on the pitch in the space of 90 minutes.”
