The creativity of UCFB Burnley student Samuel Girven was seen by over 40,000 people at Non-League finals day at Wembley Stadium.

Through doing work experience with the advertising agency Sports 360, Samuel, a first year BA (Hons) Football Business & Media student, designed a full page advert for the company’s services which took pride of place in the match day programme for the event.

As well as his work appearing in the programme, Samuel had a similar design placed in the Rugby League newspaper League Weekly.

After doing some work with BT Sport, Betfred and Coral, Samuel contacted Sports 360, based in Lancashire, to enquire of any work opportunities. Following a meeting with the group where Samuel discussed his past experiences with design and online software, he was asked to design posters fit for newspapers, programmes and magazines.

Samuel said: “I was given a number of previous posters by Sports 360 to grasp the idea of what they wanted. They suggested that in the new posters they wanted less words, but enough to give an idea of what the company is about. I was given size details for the design, and had to make sure that all contact details would be together and to introduce the social media sites – this was something they wanted to boost and use more often.”

A keen Samuel was asked to design four posters from which the company picked their favourite before discussing areas for improvement and sourcing pictures, being wary of any copyright issues.

Samuel added: “It took around two months to get to the final design, sending artwork back and forth and having meetings about the changes needed. But having seen the changes from the first to the last design, the quality has improved massively and I’m very proud of the work I’ve done. I’m really proud to see it in print and to say I’ve had some of my own work published.”
