This summer, BA (Hons) Football Business & Finance student, Callum Limb began an amazing internship at Championship Club, Huddersfield Town AFC. The unique opportunity has enabled Callum to gain some unparalleled experience across a range of departments at the football club, increasing his chances of securing his dream job in the future.

Throughout the summer Callum has performed a range of tasks, gaining an invaluable insight into how the mechanics of a successful football club operates. With exposure to senior members at the club, including the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Director of Football and the club’s Manager; Callum has been able to gain some invaluable contacts that will be extremely useful throughout and after his three year academic journey at UCFB.

Predominantly working alongside the CEO of Huddersfield Town AFC, Nigel Clibbens, Callum was tasked to carry out a number of different financial, football-related projects. Using both the specialised and transferable skills that he learned in his first year as a Football Business & Finance student at UCFB, Callum was able to assist in the production of budgets, modelling, and benchmarking retail/ticket prices. While at Huddersfield he also had access to the clubs annual accounts, allowing him to gain some real life experience of a working football club’s financial department, providing the perfect platform to enter his second year at UCFB.

On his internship at Huddersfield Town AFC, Callum commented:

“Over the past three months I have gained an amazing insight into how football is changing and the importance that analytics could play in the subsequent years to come. I have been fortunate to work on a range of financial projects and even had the opportunity to work alongside the Head of Communications on match days, producing the post-game match report for the official club website. Learning all these skills at the centre of a successful Championship football club has been a truly inspiring experience which I am forever grateful for.”

CEO of Huddersfield Town AFC, Nigel Clibbens commented on Callum’s progress:

“Callum initially impressed me by seeking a meeting enquiring about work experience opportunities at the club. I decided to give him a chance, and I’m extremely glad that I did as he has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He has excellent IT skills, common sense and a real willingness to learn and get stuck in.

Over the past few months he has undertaken a number of tasks including detailed analysis of our football performance in Excel, managing the club website and social media platforms, conducting player interviews and acting as a Press Officer liaising with media on match days.”
