Student Profile: Nelson Ntumba, BA (Hons) Football Business & Finance
Football Business & Finance student, Nelson joined UCFB in September 2015, starting at UCFB Burnley before transferring to the brand new UCFB Etihad Campus as one of the first cohort of students to study within the state-of-the-art Etihad Stadium in Manchester. Originating from South East London, Nelson has already had the privilege of being invited to see the two most successful clubs in the history of English football, Liverpool and Manchester United, as part of a UCFB marketing module.
Outside of the academic curriculum, Nelson cites the Strategic Leadership & Management Programme, led by Scottish Professional Football League Chief Executive, Neil Doncaster, as one of his highlights. Veteran football business executive, Neil Doncaster provides an unrivalled insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of a football club or governing body, and presents students with an opportunity to experience real-life crisis scenarios, an exercise that Nelson has relished.
In addition to Neil Doncaster’s Management Games, Nelson has attended each of the Executive Speaker Series sessions throughout his first year at UCFB, including those by Jamie Carragher and Joey Barton. On these high-profile guest speakers, Nelson comments; “it’s very helpful for when we graduate and want to work in the sport industry as we will have learned from people at the very top of the game.”
The lifestyle and extracurricular sporting activities are another highlight for Nelson, a keen basketballer, who plays for a local basketball team as well as the UCFB Men’s Football Team in the BUCS championships. A long way from his London home, Nelson has settled in quickly and made a number of new close friends at UCFB.
Aspiring sport agent, Nelson has been inspired during his time at UCFB, and has been encouraged to look broadly at the global world of sport. As a huge basketball fan, Nelson is now considering the option to work as a basketball agent in the US once he graduates.
“UCFB have proven that they have the resources to help us achieve our dreams of working in the sport industry.”
