Chloe’s Baltimore Coaching Experience

Upon arriving in Baltimore for week 1 of my coaching placement, I met my first coaching group and we drove out towards Chesapeake, VA which isn’t far from the infamous Virginia beach. It took us just over 4 hours to get there: what a way to get my first experience of driving in America!

We arrived at the camp at 6pm on the Sunday evening and met with our new host families and the camp coordinator to organise the upcoming week.

Week...

Marketing at the Rugby World Cup

It’s not too often someone can say that they helped in the running of a World Cup…

…but I am one of those fortunate enough not only to have been involved in the running of a World Cup, but also attend as a spectator.

The Rugby League World Cup is an international rugby tournament hosted by a different nation every four years. Over its 60 year history, 19 teams have competed to win the famous trophy and in 2013, the event was...

My Moment in the Media

Since the start of February I have been working as an intern in the media department of Burnley Football Club.

My role involves working in the office during the week and writing football related articles, mainly stories for the website and match day programme. This includes interviewing managers, players, executives – some of which to camera. I also work on all home match days and travel to some of the away games where I write live match reports and post-match reaction...

What do I want out of my trip?

With only a few days to go until my trip across to the west coast of North America, I thought now would be a good time to outline what I want from this trip academically. As a marketing student, I want to experience how the teams in America market themselves to their fans. I hope to go to as many games as possible of as many different sports as I can, although I may...

Danny and Josh’s Work Placement with the Hong Kong FA

Day 1:

We arrived in Hong Kong at 11am on Thursday and got on the express from the airport to ‘Central’ on Hong Kong Island. We then got a taxi from the station to the apartment, the boot of the taxi was open and my case was hanging out because it was too big to fit in.The apartment that we are staying in is lovely and even has a back patio/decking area, which I am told is extremely rare in Hong...

Women in Football Business – inspiring a new generation

I attended UCFB’s Women in Football Business (WiFB) Forum held recently. The event was designed to raise awareness about working in the business side of the industry, as well as acknowledge the successful business women currently working within what could be described as a male dominated industry – the world of football and sports.

The line-up of the forum consisted of BBC Sports Broadcaster Jacqui Oatley, The FA’s Head of the National Game, Kelly Simmons MBE, the CEO of Sunderland AFC, Margaret Byrne...

UCFB Students experience exciting UEFA Champions League Final

I was fortunate to be gifted with tickets for the UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium. Well, where to start…the game was absolutely amazing!

I don’t think I could thank Mr Wilson and everyone at UCFB enough for the opportunity I had; it made for the best 21st birthday weekend I could have dreamed of.

The atmosphere was absolutely breath-taking, not to mention the top notch match we got to see and the amazing seats. I am still pinching myself now....

Going Behind the Scenes at Football Focus Live

I was volunteering for BBC for Football Focus Live, from the national football museum, helping with the audience and seeing how the show works. I was even lucky enough to see the show live! Learning how the show works with fan interaction was interesting, as I feel in any business interaction with people and fans is important; it keeps them interested and engaged.Event organising is a pathway I would like to pursue and meeting with Shelley helped me understand it...

A Spectacular End of Year Visit to St George’s Park

To mark the end of the semester, we embarked on a trip to one of the UK’s top footballing destinations – St Georges Park, the FA’s brand new footballing headquarters, and home to all things England. After previous trips to Hampden Park, Wembley and the National Football Museum, SGP had a lot to live up to.

We arrived at about 9.30, and I have to admit, the scenery definitely didn’t disappoint. SGP is set on a 330 acre plot of land, surrounded...
